Baljit's Story

I want to start off by saying thank you for your support and willingness to have Maggie work with DCSS on our partnership to help those who owe child support find employment. We also thank Maggie! The value truly comes from the engagement that has started to occur with some of our non-custodial parties (NPs) that Maggie has worked with.
Since the beginning of the program and through the end of May, our child support staff have referred 294 NPs to Maggie. She had reached out to an impressive 283 as of 5/31/2024. We gave the program a few months before we started to look at payment information on our side.
The first cohort is the November cohort with a total of 4 NP’s who became employed as a result of this partnership! These NP’s, as with almost all cohorts, were paying zero towards their monthly child support prior to becoming employed. Since December, payments have started to come in from the November cohort and the amount in payments coming in has increased each month up to the full amount they owe in their monthly obligation being paid in May!
In total, 23 NP’s have become employed due to Maggie’s efforts so far due to this collaboration and we have received a total of $19,169.99 in child support payments, approximately 46% of those owed for the same timeframe – payments that we would never have received otherwise. Importantly, this may serve as motivation for these individuals to pay consistently towards their obligations. As more NP’s get enrolled, I look forward to more support coming in for those children in our community who need it and for their custodial parents who may have done without in the past.
