Mariana's Story

Client: Mariana
Program: WIOA/Veterans Services
Department: Career Services

How long has it been since you worked?

I transitioned out of the military during COVID and was out of work for 2 years. I was struggling to find a job as well as nervous to find my first civilian job.

What struggles were you dealing with?

Since it had been over 7 years since my last civilian job, I didn't have a resume updated. I also wasn't sure how to dress for my interview nor did I have any clothing that was interview worthy.

Which Stanislaus County Workforce Development services helped you the most?

SCWD gave me the opportunity to take classes that helped me prepare for my interview, help get my finances in order and update my resume. I was also provided the interview clothing as well as interview experience that allowed me to feel confident during my scheduled interviews.

What was your experience?

I had such a wonderful experience. My advisor was there to guide me through the process and provide any resources that would aid me in finding a job. The mock interviews, interview shopping and resume building helped me get multiple interviews.

Would you like to thank anyone?

I would like to thank everyone that helped in the process. I would especially like to thank Lisa Simms. Since she was a prior veteran, she knew the struggles of transition from military to a civilian workforce. She genuinely cared about helping me not only find a job, but something that I would enjoy doing.

How do you feel about your success now?

I'm grateful and fortunate to say l was lucky enough to find a great job working in Stanislaus County.
